Dayeon is a dual-qualified senior associate in our Disputes Group. Her practice focuses on complex domestic and international disputes, particularly in the construction, infrastructure, aviation, mining and telecommunications sectors, as well as the enforcement of arbitral awards in Canada.
Dayeon regularly advises owners, contractors and other project participants on large infrastructure projects, including contractor claims, construction defects, project delays, bidding processes and dispute avoidance strategies, and has represented clients before various dispute resolution boards.
As arbitration counsel, Dayeon has represented clients in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations, including proceedings under the ICC and UNCITRAL Rules. She has represented the Government of Canada in investor-state arbitrations under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules arising under bilateral investment treaties and free trade agreements. She has also advised Canada on the negotiation of international trade and investment agreements, and on its obligations under international trade law, including matters involving economic sanctions and national security.
Called to the bars of Québec and New York, Dayeon is fluent in English, French and Korean, and has working proficiency in Mandarin. Prior to joining BLG, she worked with the international arbitration group of a leading international law firm in Dubai, and clerked for the Honourable Pierre Nollet of the Superior Court of Québec.

- Represented Canada in investor-state arbitration proceedings under the UNCITRAL Rules involving the seizure of the asset of a sanctioned entity under a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.
- Advised the Government of Canada in the negotiation of bilateral investment treaties and free trade agreements, with a focus on foreign investment protection and trade in services.
- Acted as counsel and advised Canada as a non-disputing party in proceedings under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) and Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
- Represented U.S. investors in the enforcement of a US$100+ million investor-state arbitral award against the Republic of India before the Superior Court of Québec, the Québec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
- Represented a Canadian construction venture in an ICC arbitration arising from the construction of a water treatment facility for a lithium mining project.
- Represented a construction joint venture in a C$160 million ad hoc arbitration against a Canadian public authority relating to a major infrastructure project.
- Represented an EPC contractor in disputes arising from a multi-billion-dollar rail infrastructure project in Québec, including proceedings before a standing dispute resolution committee.
- Represented a Canadian aviation company in a multi-million-dollar ICC arbitration against a European supplier arising from a strategic partnership agreement.
