a view of a city

Montréal

Right from the start, you’ll find the Montréal office welcoming.

Learn by doing. Engage in discussion and analysis with leaders in the profession. Discover new areas of interest by immersing yourself in the practice of law right from the start.

You’ll get the hands-on experience you need to become the lawyer you want to be. You'll receive training, opportunities and challenges designed to establish a brilliant career. You'll be treated as a professional and part of a team.

Summer Program

Work with us for a summer or two prior to articling. You’ll experience several practice areas and work closely with our lawyers, giving you confidence and experience as you begin articling.

Our summer program doesn’t involve formal rotations. This means you can work in many practice areas and get to know and learn from a variety of lawyers.

You’ll be assigned a mentor who will answer your questions about the firm, the work we do and the legal profession.

Your summer begins with a two-week orientation, covering all aspects of legal research and drafting of research memoranda. You’ll then attend weekly training sessions where you’ll learn about our practice areas and community outreach programs.

You’ll get right into working, by:

  • researching and drafting
  • going to meetings
  • conducting due diligence
  • drafting contracts and pleadings
  • attending discoveries and court appearances

Articling Program

Our flexible articling program builds on your time as a BLG summer student and gives you the freedom to work in the practice areas that interest you most.

We tailor your rotation schedule based on your interests and previous experience in our summer program.

Comprehensive Training

Your articling experience begins with an in-depth orientation, introducing you to our Montréal office and all its resources. You’ll also attend professional development seminars geared to stagiaires, such as:

  • communicating with clients
  • preparing for and arguing a motion
  • file and practice management

Articling students can also participate in firm-wide training programs offered throughout the year.

Mentoring

You’ll be assigned a mentor and a maître de stage. Your mentor will meet with you regularly to give feedback, monitor your workload and ensure you receive a wide variety of files and projects.

Hands-on Experience

Lawyers will assign you work directly, tasks much the same as those done by junior associates. These may include:

  • attending meetings
  • drafting and pleading motions
  • conducting discoveries
  • preparing and signing letters of demands
  • drafting contracts
