BLG’s The Honourable Louise Arbour named one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers of 2022

National (September 7, 2022) – To recognize her work as a leading litigator and dedicated human rights lawyer, The Honourable Louise Arbour has been named one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer Magazine in the Human Rights, Advocacy and Criminal category. 

Madam Arbour is an internationally recognized jurist and senior counsel at BLG, providing strategic advice on litigation, governance and international disputes. She has held several senior positions at the United Nations, including High Commissioner for Human Rights and Chief Prosecutor for the international criminal tribunals for both the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. She formerly sat as a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, on the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Ontario. 

Madam Arbour has received numerous honorary doctorates and awards. Most notably, she has been a Companion of the Order of Canada since 2007, a Grand Officer of the Ordre national du Québec since 2009 and a Commander of the Légion d'honneur. She has been decorated by Spain, Colombia and Belgium. She was also awarded the 2021 Goler T. Butcher Medal by the American Society of International Law. Madam Arbour was previously selected as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer magazine in 2015.

This is the 13th annual list of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada compiled by Canadian Lawyer with over 10,000 individuals taking part in the voting process to determine members of this exclusive list.
