Natalie D. Kolos



Natalie practises civil litigation, including insurance law, municipal and police liability, and occupiers' liability. She also has experience defending defamation claims and frequently provides advice on sensitive matters.

Her practice focuses on public authority litigation and complex tort litigation for large institutional clients, including educational institutions and corporations.

She frequently defends municipalities in negligence actions, including:

  • claims for property damage;
  • non-repair of roadways and sidewalks;
  • motor vehicle accidents; and
  • water and sewage systems.



  • Acted for a municipality in bringing a summary judgment motion to dismiss a claim for failure to comply with the 10 day notice requirement: Psaila v. Kapsalis and City of Toronto, 2021 ONSC 1308.
  • Obtained an order for production of a real estate lawyer’s complete file: Armstrong v. Penny, 2021 ONSC 6646.
  • Obtained leave to amend a pleading following an opposed motion: Aktar v. Canada Cartage, 2021 ONSC 1060.
  • Acted for police defendants in a claim alleging negligent investigation and defamation. The claim was dismissed following a motion for summary judgment: Supreme Auto Group Inc. v. Chief William Blair, 2020 ONSC 1223.
  • Counsel for the defendant police force in an action alleging racial profiling. The action was dismissed in its entirety on a summary judgment motion and the decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal: Reece v. Toronto (Police Services Board), 2017 ONSC 3854, aff’d 2018 ONCA 91.
  • Opposed a motion to amend pleadings on behalf of insurance broker defendants: National Industries Inc. v Kirkwood, 2017 ONSC 4196.
  • Counsel for a defendant municipality at a trial claiming damages for personal injuries arising out of alleged roadway deficiencies.
