Briggs is a disputes associate that assists clients with business-critical disputes across a broad array of industries, including acting for corporate clients in complex litigation and regulatory matters. Briggs’ experience spans a variety of industries including electricity generation and transmission, oil and gas, construction, mining, trucking, rail, telecommunications and real estate development.

Briggs has arbitration, trial and appellate experience. He has appeared before the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Court of Appeal of Alberta. He has also assisted with matters before the Alberta Utilities Commission and the Canada Energy Regulator.

Briggs also works with clients proactively to identify and mitigate risks to their business, often assisting clients in regulated industries. For example, Briggs advises clients on lobbyist registrations, government accountability and election laws. He assists corporate executives, companies and organizations to adopt strategies and policies to ensure lobbying law compliance.

  • Telesat, in its $2.54B funding agreements (for its subsidiary, Telesat LEO Inc.) with the Government of Canada and the Government of Québec for its broadband satellite constellation, Telesat Lightspeed Network.
  • 1719349 Alberta Ltd v 1824766 Alberta Ltd, 2024 ABCA 164, appellate counsel in successfully responding to an appeal for leave to bring a derivative action.
  • Ruel v Rebonne, 2023 ABCA 156, appellate counsel in successfully enforcing a non-competition agreement from an asset purchase agreement.
  • Trial counsel to a liquor agency in a contractual dispute with a producer involving termination obligations.
