Project Description:

The Confederation Line Light Rail Transit Project includes the expansion of the City’s existing commuter rail system, the Trillium Line, east-west through the City, and Phase 2 involves extensions of the Confederation Line to the east and west.

BLG Role:

BLG represents the City of Ottawa on all aspects of expropriation proceedings, including defence and settlement of claims under the Expropriations Act. In addition to the expropriation work, we are responsible for successfully negotiating complex agreements, including integrated station entrance connection agreements, to facilitate the integration of new transit stations into existing office and retail buildings in the downtown. Throughout 2018 and 2019, BLG negotiated the entrance connection agreements and other agreements in anticipation of revenue service commencing in September 2019.

BLG continues to work with the City on all property acquisition, including expropriations, for the Phase 2 LRT project. This work includes negotiation of numerous complex agreements with commercial properties, other levels of government, the airport authority, and the National Capital Commission.
