Toronto (June 16, 2025) – Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Hélène Deschamps Marquis as Artificial Intelligence (AI) Practice Lead, highlighting the firm’s commitment to strengthening AI-related risk mitigation in client-facing matters across all practice areas.
As AI continues to transform the way organizations operate and serve their clients, business leaders from every sector are under increased pressure to manage the accompanying ethical, regulatory and operational risks attached to this technology. These challenges include internal governance and oversight; industry and local regulatory compliance; AI-related issues in labour and employment; structuring commercial agreements related to AI; the unique challenges of financing AI ventures; and the management of every point of intersection between everyday technology and continuous AI developments, such as generative AI (GenAI).
A thought leader of worldwide renown with decades of experience counseling pan-Canadian and international organizations in managing technological risks, including during high-stakes transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, Hélène contributes to an innovative legal landscape in digital and technology law, privacy protection, and artificial intelligence ethics. In her new role as BLG’s AI Practice Lead, she will adopt a cross-practice perspective in providing guidance everywhere AI is making an impact.
“AI is rapidly becoming a ubiquitous technology across Canadian businesses. This growing integration means our clients are faced with an ever-expanding list of risks and opportunities involving AI, which require careful assessment and legal guidance. Under Hélène’s leadership, we are bringing together multidisciplinary teams of leading practitioners in corporate M&A, product liability, litigation and disputes, intellectual property, financial services and fintech, privacy, cybersecurity and regulatory law to offer our clients an unparalleled, and deeply practical, holistic view on AI,” says David Di Paolo, incoming National Managing Partner and CEO.
Hélène’s role as AI Practice Lead is in addition to her current role as National Co-Leader, Privacy & Cybersecurity within BLG’s Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Group.
