As both a lawyer and trademark agent, Jacky has a highly specialized intellectual property practice. He specializes in conducting trademark oppositions and non-use cancellation proceedings in Canada. His practice primarily focuses in the areas of trademarks, copyright, licensing and other intellectual property-related transactions.

Jacky advises clients with their branding strategy and managing their trademark portfolios.

Additionally, he provides targeted strategic advice to brand owners of various sizes ranging from multinational corporations to individually-owned businesses based on their specific business needs.

Before joining BLG, Jacky practised at a national intellectual property firm and a boutique trademark firm in Ottawa.

He is fluent in Cantonese and conversant in Mandarin. During his legal studies, Jacky participated in an exchange program in Hong Kong, where he worked as an intern in the Intellectual Property Department of the Government of Hong Kong.


  • Acted as lead counsel in trademark oppositions and non-use cancellation proceedings.
  • Drafted and prosecuted Canadian trademark applications, including three-dimensional marks and distinguishing guises.
  • Provided trademark registrability opinions, including trademark clearance projects for pharmaceutical companies.
  • Advising clients in the retail and food industries on their marketing plans and domain name issues.
