Melinda is focused on growing client relationships, investing in local talent and reinforcing the firm’s commitment to service, integrity and community connection. In addition to her leadership role, she brings more than 30 years of experience in corporate and securities law, with 20 years of her practice spent at BLG, with a strong focus on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance.

She advises public and private companies on a wide range of transactional and strategic matters, including domestic and cross-border M&A, reverse takeovers (RTOs), going-public transactions and complex business combinations. She structures and negotiates share and asset deals and helps companies navigate regulatory and compliance issues tied to reorganizations and strategic investments.

Boards of directors and special committees regularly turn to her for guidance on governance practices, fiduciary duties, conflicts of interest and continuous disclosure. She also advises issuers listed on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange on governance frameworks, securities compliance and financing strategies through prospectus and private placements.

Melinda served on BLG’s Partnership Board for six years and has contributed to both the regional and national management committees, shaping firmwide strategy, talent development and operations. For part of her time on BLG’s Partnership Board, she served as Chair of the Board, becoming the first woman at BLG to hold that position. A committed Calgary community leader, Melinda serves on the Board of Directors for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and previously served on the Board for Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre. She also served on the Board of Governors of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, where she acted as both Vice Chair and Chair for parts of her tenure.

In 2021, Melinda received the Calgary Influential Women in Business Award for Professional Services, and she was appointed to the King's Counsel in 2024, in Alberta.
