Mu has a broad disputes practice, with a focus on commercial litigation and international and domestic commercial arbitration.

She has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia in complex cases involving defamation, contractual and shareholder disputes, construction, real estate, banking, fraud recovery and arbitration-related litigation.  

Mu's arbitration experience includes acting on counsel teams in significant commercial arbitration proceedings in Canada and Asia under various institutional sets of rules, including the UNCITRAL Rules, the VanIAC Domestic Arbitration Rules, and the HKICAC Administered Arbitration Rules.

Mu is fluent in Chinese and conversational in Cantonese. Prior to practicing law, she worked in a global technology company in Shanghai. 

Experience

  • Sunstar Ventures Ltd. v. Conexus Credit Union 2006, 2022 BCSC 1674 - counsel for the successful party defending a claim in relation to a purchase and sale contract of certain development lands. 
  • Lee-Sheriff v. Christman, 2022 BCSC 1914 - counsel for the successful party defending an application under the Protection of Public Participation Act (also known as the Anti-Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation legislation).
  • Defending claims brought against banks and credit unions in Provincial and Supreme Court of British Columbia.
  • Fraud recovery investigations and proceedings, including obtaining freezing orders (Mareva injunctions) and third party document disclosure orders (Norwich Pharmacal orders), and the seizure and sale of real and personal property from the perpetrators of fraud.
  • Prosecuting and enforcing debt and judgment recovery claims, including the registration and recognition of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in British Columbia.
  • Part of a team that advising a software developer in a USD 200 million HKIAC arbitration relating to derivative software and copyright infringement under Hong Kong law.
