Nasra practices in our corporate commercial group, with a focus on international trade and investment law.

Nasra is a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) and regularly advises businesses and government entities on a range of issues including trade remedies, customs compliance, free trade agreements, international arbitrations, investor-state disputes, export controls, economic sanctions and cross-border product regulatory compliance.

Nasra summered and articled at BLG before returning as an associate.

Experience

  • Advised the Government of the United Kingdom in the negotiation of multiple post-Brexit free trade and investment agreements.
  • Advised the Honourable Louise Arbour during her review into harassment and sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence.
  • Advised a State regarding the availability of state-to-state arbitration in respect of a state-owned entity investment.
  • Represented multiple steel exporters in antidumping and subsidy matters.
  • Represented a major American household appliance manufacturer in a CBSA trade compliance verification.
  • Represented the Canadian affiliate of a European multinational in voluntary disclosure proceedings before the Canada Border Services Agency regarding valuation adjustments.
  • Successfully challenged a CFIA suspension against an American cold storage and export company.
  • Advised numerous companies with respect to compliance with economic sanctions imposed by Canada pursuant to the Special Economic Measures Act and the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act.
  • Advised a business in the recall, disposal and reporting of goods suspected of being produced with forced labour.
  • Advised businesses on compliance with Canadian lobbying laws.
