Natalie has appeared as lead counsel at trials and appeals at all levels of court in Ontario and practises in civil litigation, including:
Municipal and police liability;
Public authority litigation; and
Tort litigation for large institutional clients and public sector organizations.
She advises and defends municipalities and other public sector clients on negligence actions including:
Claims for property damage;
Non-repair of roadways;
Sidewalks and private property;
Motor vehicle accidents; and
Water and sewage systems.
Acted for a school board in successfully responding to two applications for judicial review which alleged the applicants' rights to freedom of expression were infringed: Burjoski v. Waterloo Region District School Board, 2023 ONSC 6506 and Ramsay v. Waterloo District School Board, 2023 ONSC 6508
Successfully obtained a trial judgment dismissing a claim alleging negligent investigation, malicious prosecution and breach of Charter claim against a police service and investigating officers: McCormack v. Evans, 2023 ONSC 4340
Acted for a municipality in a summary judgment motion to dismiss a claim for failure to comply with the 10-day notice requirement: Psaila v. Kapsalis and City of Toronto, 2021 ONSC 1308, aff'd 2022 ONCA 37.
Acted for defendants in defamation actions in which successful anti-SLAPP motions were brought to dismiss the claims: Hotspot Auto Parts v. Thompson, 2022 ONSC 3637; Mondal v. Evans-Bitten, 2022 ONSC 809, aff'd 2023 ONCA 523; and Volpe v. Wong-Tam, 2022 ONSC 3106
Successfully appealed a refusal to grant summary judgment in a claim alleging negligent investigation against police: G.S. v. Toronto Police Services Board, 2022 ONSC 3621.
Brought a successful Rule 21 motion on behalf of insurance broker defendants confirming pleadings were an abuse of process and barred by res judicata: National Industries Inc. v. Kirkwood, 2022 ONSC 937, aff'd 2023 ONCA 63
Successfully had a claim dismissed against police defendants alleging negligent investigation and defamation: Supreme Auto Group Inc. v. Chief William Blair, 2020 ONSC 1223
